Hey all!
So this is my first post on the Deutsche Abenteuer (German Adventures) blog! If you're worried you missed me calm down, I'm still in the country. I have however booked my plane ticket and settled my housing situation, both of which were frightening hurdles I'm glad I cleared. It is however, also a little intimidating to have them complete. It brings home the very stark reality of my situation. I a little over a month I'll be on a plane to Germany. My plane departs August 28th from the O'Hare airport in Chicago. There really isn't any turning back now. The prospect is both thoroughly exciting and utterly terrifying.
As far as those living accommodations go I think I got off alright! I am staying in an apartment above the home of a married couple about a mile and a half from the University of Cologne campus. The wife is originally from Wisconsin so she speaks English fluently. Her husband obviously isn't as fluent but I can understand him just fine. They are supposed to rent out to two other foreign students during this next semester and one of the tenants, a Russian woman, is already moved in. I'm not quite sure how proficient her English skills are yet so communicating with her in only broken German could be very interesting.
